In ancient times, it was believed that the mind and the body are all one system instead of a bunch of parts. Recently, Western medicine has rediscovered this theory and started exploring it, and some of the complementary modalities are being used. For example, hypnosis, acupuncture, and reiki are becoming more popular in the United States. To discuss all the ways that your mind and body work together would fill a book, so here are some ways your mind and body connection can affect your well being.
Everything that we experience gets stored in some form of memory. We remember the significant moments with a meaning or belief attached to them, and these beliefs produce emotions and behaviors that eventually lead to habitual behavior. This is the most obvious way that the mind affects the body. Positive beliefs create positive actions, and negative beliefs create negative ones.
How we talk to ourselves and others has a strong impact on our thoughts, behavior, and health. Phrases like “pain in the neck” or “he makes me sick” become real physical symptoms the more often they are repeated. Changing the way you talk can cause you to feel different. Keeping a positive tone on both your mental and verbal dialogues can actually cause you to feel better.
Everything you say, see, or hear affects your mind. Keep in mind what you listen to and what you watch throughout the day, and see if it inspires or depresses you. Skip the bad news for a few days and see how you feel. Pay attention to how much violence or negativity that you get a day, and try to balance it out with things that make you feel better.
We get more of what we focus on. If you focus on things that make you angry, sad, or fearful, you will continue to feel these things. This can eventually lead to disease or physical health problems. It is a case of you are what you believe – focus on the positive things and you will eventually become more positive yourself.
The “fight or flight” syndrome can be activated any time we are in situations of stress – which for some of us is every day. Too much of the hormones produced in this state can lead to depression, obesity, and brain atrophy, and can greatly decrease your life expectancy.
The autonomic nervous system works without you being conscious of it, controlling all of your bodily function. The sympathetic branch of this handles the fight of flight response, and decreases the activity of the immune, reproductive, and digestive systems. The parasympathetic branch is the opposite, and handles the relaxation response and increases the activity of immune, reproductive, and digestive systems.
Hypnosis can help focus your attention, relax you, and increase responsiveness. In doing so, you can create a more positive and healthy mindset. When your mind is healthy, your body will follow – and as you learn to think, speak, and act more positively and with more relaxation, the better you will start to feel.

You may have heard of weight loss hypnosis CDs and been wondering what they are and whether or not they can help you melt away the extra weight. Here is some information to decide if they are right for you.
A weight loss hypnosis CD is a collection of audio files designed for someone who is trying to lose weight. The CD works by targeting the source of the problem, which in most cases is a tendency to overeat. The reasons for overeating are many: people eat out of boredom, they love food, or, if you like Freudian theories, have a retained obsession with putting thing in their mouth from childhood. Whatever the reason, a weight loss hypnosis CD can often help to resolve the problem.
If you have been trying to lose weight for a while, you might have tried one of the fad diets on the market, and probably have noticed that they do not work all that well. The best way to lose weight is with a proper diet and plenty of exercise. The number of calories you eat each day have to be less than the number you burn in order to achieve a lasting weight loss. However, this is often easier said than done. A weight loss hypnosis CD can help alleviate the cravings for food in general or the luscious sweets, while at the same time giving you more motivation to get up off the couch and get outdoors for some exercise.
If losing weight could happen just by thinking about it all of us would be supermodels. Unfortunately, we have to have consistent work on our part to achieve it. A weight loss hypnosis CD can help get your subconscious on board with the plan and get it to work at helping instead of sabotaging it. If you look in the memory banks of your mind, you will probably find hundreds or even thousands of negative thoughts and “I can’ts” - I’m too fat to go to the gym, I can’t resist junk food, etc. Your subconscious has been trained to believe that these are real, and acts accordingly. You think you are fat, therefore you are. A weight loss hypnosis CD can help you erase these negative thoughts and get you thinking positively. It will focus your mind into making an image of you as skinnier and healthier. Once this has happened, your subconscious can help the rest of your mind to work at a plan to make this a reality.
The connection between your mind and body is strong, so once they are both in sync you will be amazed at the power you have to accomplish things. A weight loss CD may be just the push you need to get started at finding the you that is healthier and enjoying a better lifestyle. Plus, the longer you stick with it, the easier it will become – so with time a healthy you will be just as strong of a habit as the unhealthy one used to be.

When most people think of hypnosis, they commonly think about entertainers who use hypnosis as a way to wow the audience with their powers of suggestability. However, hypnosis is actually a great way of dealing with many different health-related issues that you may not be aware of. In this article, we’ll go over some of the types of problems that hypnosis may be helpful for assisting.
Quitting bad habits – one of the principal reasons that people visit a hypnotherapist is because they have been shown to have quite a potent track record when it comes to helping people to get over their vices. One of the most common reasons for a visit to the hypnotherapist is when an individual wants to quit smoking cigarettes. Others also tout the ability of the hypnotherapist when it comes to helping them to get over problems such as an inability to stick to a diet.
Pain relief – without a doubt, pain relief is one of the most effective uses of hypnotherapy currently in practice today. Hypnotherapists can help an individual to manage their pain more effectively which can be immensely useful to patients such as burn victims who need to go through agonizing procedures in order to successfully treat their problems. Several clinical studies have shown that hypnotherapy can be quite useful for problems such as this.
Anxiety and fears – many hypnotherapists operate under the belief that we are born with an instilled fear of two different things – loud noises, and being dropped. Every phobia that we develop from that point onwards, hypnotherapists argue, are learned behaviors that can be influenced by hypnotherapy. To that end, many consult hypnotherapists when trying to get over some form of unnatural fear that is limiting to their lives.
Irritable bowel syndrome, or IBS, is another problem that many people across America and the world face. Many have found that visiting a hypnotherapist for the problem can successfully help them to reduce the problem to a certain degree. Patients with hemmorhoids may also find many benefits to visiting a hypnotherapist. Also, individuals who are receiving chemotherapy treatment in order to help them to fight off a cancer may find that hypnotherapy is helpful in reducing their pain and the nausea that the chemotherapy drugs causes them to experience. Some women find that hypnotherapy can be helpful when it comes to reestablishing their menstrual cycle when other efforts have failed.
These are just some of the many practical applications that hypnosis can be useful for. We continue to learn more about how and why hypnosis works by the day, and Western medicine is beginning to truly realize just how effective the treatments can be. In order to find a hypnotherapist that is near you, you may want to consider visiting the website of
The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, which is located at the URL http://www.asch.net. There, you can find a hypnotherapist that is licensed and fully qualified to help you with whatever problems you may be experiencing in your life.

Obesity and overeating are growing problems and concerns worldwide. But the problem is especially bad in the United States, where obesity is leading to the rise of all sorts of other problems.

From diabetes to heart disease, the many issues that arise from being overweight are a on the rise. As the problems continue to grow, so does the research into the causes of and treatments for obesity. One of the new and most exciting fields of obesity treatment is weight loss hypnosis. Weight loss hypnosis, or the use of hypnosis to fight overeating, has many benefits associated with it, and none of the side effects associated with other forms of treatment.

Weight Loss Hypnosis As A Form Of Treatment

For an obese or overweight person, there are seemingly endless types of treatments available to help them lose weight. However, not all treatments are created equal, and many are potential dangerous or harmful.

There are dozens of diet pills on the market right now. The problem with these pills is that as long as they contain no narcotics, they are beyond the scope and reach of the Food and Drug Administration. As such, there are no controls over what goes into the pills, and no testing has to be done before releasing them on the market. These pills can lead to a variety of problems, such as the heart attacks that were occurring on consumers of Ephedrine before it was removed from the market. Even prescription drugs have nasty side effects of all kinds. With weight loss hypnosis, the side effects are non-existent, and the treatment is completely safe.

Surgeries are extremely expensive, and not all medical plans cover weight loss surgeries. Scars can be left for life, and sometimes the surgeries go wrong. There are very specific reasons why doctors only recommend stomach stapling to the morbidly obese: Many things can go wrong when someone is under the knife and having organs worked on. But weight loss hypnosis is safe, it taps into the limitless power of the human brain to create the desired weight loss results.

What Is Weight Loss Hypnosis?

Weight loss hypnosis is the use of hypnosis to change the way your brain thinks, the way it perceives things. Overeating is addictive for many people. It causes rushes and waves of euphoria, and makes the brain crave those waves. But with the simple power of hypnotic suggestion, the waves of euphoria can be replaced with normal, proper feelings towards food. This creates weight loss by removing the addiction to eating and replacing it with normalcy. There are no side effects, no expensive drugs or surgery, no risks to your health. If you are overweight and looking for a solution, please consider weight loss hypnosis. It just might be the answer you are looking for.

Life is stressful. Plus, stress can come from many sources: your school, you job, your family, your health, your finances, etc. Sometimes it may be hard to cope, but it can be helpful to use instant self hypnosis to stay strong and calm during unexpected circumstances. Instant self hypnosis is where a person uses techniques that they have learned to hypnotize themselves into a calmer state of mind. If it is instructed by a professional, it is not harmful and can be used to help a patient deal with difficult situations.
In stressful situations, the “fight or flight response” may kick in, making it difficult to react without becoming angry, scared, or panicked. This is where instant self hypnosis can help. Once the patient can recognize the signs that they are losing control, they can use instant self hypnosis to calm their mind and deal with the impending situation appropriately. It can help people who lose their temper too quickly or easily, or for people who experience panic attacks on a regular basis. It can also be useful as a way to calm the mind during every day stresses.
Therapists often need many sessions to be able to help their patients become fluent in self hypnosis, because, like other types of hypnosis, the procedure gets easier with practice. In the beginning, this type of hypnosis may take time, and it will need some work to make it instant. The therapist helps the patient find a way to calm their mind, often by visualizing a safe and calming place in their mind that they can visit when they feel that they are starting to lose control. By using the same method frequently, they can quicken the amount of time that is needed to achieve an appropriate amount of calm and relaxation. After several sessions, the actual amount varying from patient to patient, the patient will be able to induce instant self hypnosis in order to remain in control by using a simple word or image.
Once learned, this technique can help a wide variety of people. If someone with a short fuse on their temper gets into an argument at work, instant self hypnosis may help them stay calm and rational without blowing their top. A person who has frequent panic attacks can use instant self hypnosis the second that they feel one coming on so that they can stay relaxed and calm. Someone who has low self esteem or self confidence can use instant self hypnosis to relax their mind and allow themselves to push negative thoughts and feelings aside so that they can gain confidence.
Remember, all forms of self hypnosis take practice, so do not get discouraged if it takes some time for them to work and for you to notice a difference. You also have to believe that it is going to work in order for your subconscious to grab a hold of the idea. With a little practice and belief you will soon be using instant self hypnosis to make it through your day without problems.

Who hasn’t felt those waves of queasiness and nausea when faced with a change in equilibrium? The fast roller coaster, the turbulent plane ride, boat trip or long car ride. Many people suffer from motion sickness.

Motion sickness is actually caused by mixed signals between the eyes and the balance signal known as the inner ear. An example is when you experience seasickness; you are being tossed about on rough seas. Your inner ear tells you that you are in motion, but your eyes see your cabin walls that are still. The information is conflicting and the result is nausea.

There are a few things that can be done to minimize your discomfort like trying to minimize the changes in speed, or direction. You can try lying down, not turning your head or closing your eyes. Some people sear that focusing on objects ahead of you can help you to feel less carsicknesses. There are also wristbands that apply pressure to the wrist so they hit at the acupuncture point on the arm. Two ands must be worn; one on each wrist in the correct position to cover the acupuncture points and is effective.

Other people swear by medications like Dimenhydrinate.

Research has found that some persons experience nausea when riding in vehicles because of an elevated blood pressure and tightened muscles that can result in discomforts such as headaches, tension, dizziness and nausea. The first technique you need to learn to alleviate these symptoms is to learn how to relax. Take these relaxation tips:

1. Close your eyes and try to block out the outside world.

2. Breath deep and slowly

3. Try to create an imagery of a place where it is peaceful and calm; a safe and beautiful outdoor spot.

Continue to concentrate on this special place.

Practice self-hypnosis by bringing up this imagery place in your mind. Imagine yourself on your trip and being happy, nausea free and really enjoying yourself. The most important aspect of mind control is relaxation and being able to recall your imagery in any circumstances.

A simple hypnosis technique that anyone of any age can do is called: Transform technique. You imagine the symptoms that are causing discomfort. You then imagine a shape that you want to transform it to. Add to the shape in your mind a color, and texture. Then imagine what size it would be. Start to change or transform this shape into any color or shape that you wish it to take. Then watch as your object slowly drifts up into the sky over the local hang out. Keep it in sight if you wish, or retrieve it to touch and examine again.

Part of self-hypnosis is to claim whatever part of the experience you can and mark it as your own; the rocking of the boat for example. You want to claim that rocking motion. Try to imagine that it is a rhythm instrument and you are making an orchestra. You beat upon the rhythm instrument to the tune of the motion. Call upon your image any time you need to ease motion sickness. As you control the rhythm motion you claim your part of the motion sickness.

There are few of us who do not have something in our lives that we wish we could change. However, change is often easier to talk about than actually doing. Hypnosis may be the key to encouraging us to make the changes that we need and want to do. In a hypnotic state, the body is in a form of a trance, where the person is more aware, more focused, and more willing to accept change.
When you are in a hypnotic state, you are not thinking about the change. Instead, you are experiencing it without analyzing it. This state allows you to go over your inner thoughts and processes without being critical of them. You continue to be in control, but you are more willing to explore your options.
Hypnosis is very popular for people who need help making changes on their own, including weight loss, quitting smoking, or quitting drinking. Hypnosis is also becoming more widely used to improve relationships and self esteem. It is considered a type of therapy that can be received free or at a low cost. You can do it on your own, with the assistance of tapes or a hypnotherapist, or attend a group seminar.
While the medical community is still in debate about the effectiveness of hypnosis, there is no doubt that it is safe. When under hypnosis, you retain your right and ability to use your free will – it only uses the power of suggestion to encourage you to make the changes that you need to. More medical professionals are recommending hypnosis as treatment to their patients than ever before. It has been used to ease anxieties, break habits, ease pain, or ease symptoms of chronic diseases.
At least 80% of our habits and behaviors are rooted in our subconscious. Therefore, it makes sense that by causing the subconscious to make a change we can change these habits and behaviors as well. It also explains why so many people will fail at making these changes on their own, regardless of the different programs they have tried.
When working with the subconscious, it is important to keep a positive light on the subject. Do not picture yourself as fat when you want to lose weight – instead, picture the new, slim you and the things you could do. If you wish to stop smoking, picture yourself as a nonsmoker and how that would change your life.
Hypnosis allows the subject to explore their subconscious without the thoughts of the conscious mind getting in the way. Once we get in touch with this level of our mind, we can control our habits and behaviors. In order for this to be most successful, the patient must be willing to undergo hypnosis and believe that it will make a difference. They also should be prepared that it is quite likely going to take several sessions before they are entirely successful. A bad habit or way of thinking was not developed overnight, so it is high unlikely that they can be broken overnight as well.

We all face barriers in our lives that keep us from accomplishing our goals. It is important to break through these barriers instead of just giving up. Here are some steps to help you to do so.
First, find a place that is comfortable and where you will not be disturbed. You will want to be relaxed before beginning, using whatever technique works best for you. A self-hypnosis book can give you techniques if you get stuck. Keep in the back of your mind the thing that you want to overcome.
Next, try reflecting on your thoughts without giving them a set direction. Know what you are thinking and how you think, becoming aware of your beliefs and abilities. Expand this awareness and allow yourself to be receptive.
Now you will need to start using your imagination. Visualization does not need to be perfect. Start by picturing a wall in front of you in the distance. As you get closer, you may see the wall in clearer detail – allow it to appear in whatever way feels right. The wall represents what has been stopping you from reaching your goals. Focus on how you feel when you are faced by it.
Next, figure out why you want to overcome this barrier. Try looking around to the other side of the wall or finding a place where you can look through it. See what it is like on the other side, and what you will be able to accomplish without the wall in your way. Once you have focused on this, step back from the wall so that you are seeing it from a distance.
Next, you will need to know what the wall is representing. This may be a limitation within yourself, something learned from someone else, or an event in your life that keeps you from overcoming the wall. Move back towards the wall, examining it closely for a word, phrase, or sentence that tells you what it is about. Or the wall might speak to you or give you a different feeling. This must happen on its own – you cannot allow your conscious mind do this.
Now, you can ask the wall what it needs to be removed from your mind. This may be a dialogue or some other indication from the wall.
Once you know what that thing is, you can reach down to the place where your resources are and you know you can be successful. Bring out whatever it is and bring the wall down – smashing, scrubbing, erasing or whatever feels right to you. Then you can look into the clear place where the wall was and see what is there now.
Lastly, you will want to celebrate. Get the feeling of another time where you were successful and bring it out. Once you have done that, you can open your eyes and come back to the real world. Then, go out and do a step that will convince you have totally let go of that old barrier. Enjoy the new-found freedom!

Hypnotherapy is becoming a more legitimate choice in the treatment of phobias, building confidence, and to help with health issues such as quitting smoking and losing weight. Here is a little history about hypnosis to get you started.
Since the start of civilization, people have turned to wise men and women in their communities to help them with their problems. Often, aspects of hypnosis were used, such as trance-inducing medicines, magic spell, or mystical talk.
In the 1900s, some doctors found that they could achieve improvements in mental health by hypnotizing their patients and having them go back to their early childhood. This gradually developed into the hypnotherapy that we know today. From this, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, also known as NLP, was developed. While NLP is now used by most hypnotherapists, it started out being marketed as a self-help method.
Modern methods of hypnosis offer relief from sadness, fear and anger. They also allow the person to live in a state of contentment and peace. Hypnotherapy, which started out passive, is becoming more and more active. It has evolved into two types of clients – those who chose hypnotherapy out of proof and those who chose it out of a need for direction.
The person who chooses hypnotherapy based on proof knows the history of it. They often know someone how has had hypnotherapy and received results from it. They may have seen demonstrations in person or on TV, and have made their decision to try it based on evidence and proof. They want to control their lives and benefit from a more active treatment. The active route they choose is often faster and more complete.
The person who chooses it out of need for direction has often taken a back seat in life – for so long that it has become a habit. They may feel afraid of trying to take control of their life because of past bad experiences. They want to be told how to act or feel because they are afraid of taking responsibility themselves. They come to hypnotherapy so that they can be made to behave in a different way. They prefer a more passive approach, but it often takes longer to receive a good result, and results may only be partial.
A more active treatment with your hypnotherapist might be a little nerve-wracking, particularly if you chose hypnotherapy out of need and not proof, but the benefits are definitely worth it. You will get used to helping your therapist help you, which in turn will cause you to feel more in control. In some cases, very passive trance hypnosis can be used to encourage a more active therapy approach from a patient.
Keep in mind that hypnotherapy is different for everyone. Whether you chose an active or passive approach is between you and your therapist. Regardless of the path, it is more than likely going to need several sessions and some work on your part in order to achieve results. But going in with an open mind and a willingness to try something new will allow you to have the best possible treatment.

Hypnosis has been defined as a normal physiological state of consciousness that is both similar and different from being awake and being asleep. It is produced by the presence of a central focus of attention and surrounding areas of inhibition.
Hypnosis produces three responses in the body.
First, there is increased concentration. During our normal “awake” state our mind is scattered, and any suggestions made will go scattering as well. When you are in a hypnotic trance, the mind is focused, so things that are suggested get absorbed and retained easier.
Second, the body is more relaxed. Most hypnotic induction starts with progressive muscular relaxation techniques. These techniques involving tensing specific muscles and relaxing to achieve a fully relaxed body and mind.
Third, there is an increased susceptibility to suggestion. This comes from the first two, where the mind is concentrated and the body is relaxed. The mind becomes high receptive to suggestions. It is also able to imagine and see things more clearly. Critical analysis is reduced; however, a person never loses complete control of their functions.
Our mind has several physiological levels: the conscious, the subconscious, and the unconscious. These also represent the different states of wakefulness and can be defined as alert, daydreaming, moderate trance, deep trance, and normal sleep. Alert is the normal state where both mind and body are awake. Daydreaming is a light trance state where the body is relaxed and the mind is withdrawn into your self and is imagining an activity. In a moderate trance your eyes are closed and you are less aware of your surroundings and more aware of yourself, and have increased imagery and suggestibility. In a deep trance your body is fully relaxed and limp and your attention is narrowed. You have high suggestibility and illusions seem real. During normal sleep all voluntary activities are stopped and you have reduced or absent consciousness.
Daydreaming, moderate trance, and deep trance are all different stages of hypnotic trance. During this time you are more susceptible to suggestions, though the amount of which varies from person to person. One person may be more suggestible in a light trance than another. It usually will take multiple sessions for an idea to take completely, though this number will also vary from one person to the next.
When in a hypnotic trance the suggestions are usually positive, with directions that the subject will want to continue upon re-achieving an alert state. These suggestions are implanted in the subconscious, and as they continue to be repeated during multiple sessions will eventually become accepted by the conscious mind. By keeping the suggestions positive, the subconscious mind is more likely to accept them, and then can use them to counteract negative thoughts and images that are holding the subject back from achieving his or her goals.
Hypnosis and hypnotherapy can be useful tools in modifying behavior and getting rid of bad habits. It can even be used to induce deeper responses of the body and stimulate healing responses for pain and illnesses.
