Definition Of Hypnosis: The Uncovered Mind Power

Some people would tell us that by just communicating with other people, we are already performing hypnosis on them.  It was said that through effective communication to other people that we make a connection with them, thus making them engaged to our thoughts and ideas.  Some people may also view the definition of hypnosis as a relaxing and naturally occurring state of mind in our everyday lives.  For example, while reading a book, daydreaming, and focusing on listening to music.

But the real definition of hypnosis, according to medical books and other sources is that it is a process in wherein the critical thinking faculties of the mind are being bypassed to encourage the establishment of selective thinking and perception.

The Common View

Though the common view about the definition of hypnosis is that it makes the person being hypnotized reaches a trance-like altered state of consciousness that heightens the person’s suggestibility and receptivity to direction.  Others may say that when they get hypnotized, they noticed an increase in their vulnerability to suggestions and other subjective feelings.  This may be true to most of the cases, but not everyone under the state of being hypnotized experience this.  To prove this, there has always been a constant controversy and confusion regarding the true definition of hypnosis.

Other people may relate the definition of hypnosis to the activity of the brain during that state while others may focus on the definition of hypnosis to the more complex, phenomenological experience.  These theories lead to the fundamental distinction of “state” and “non-state” theories and definition of hypnosis.

In A State Of Trance

Hypnosis is very powerful in a way that it can make you do things that you will not normally do once you are in the “altered state”.  It can make you focus and establish direct communication with your unconscious mind. If we are properly guided when we are in that state, our mind and body is more ready and willing to accept changes in our lives for the better.  Due to the power of hypnosis, some people have used this method to overcome their problems in life and some may use it for therapeutic purposes.

Through the power of hypnosis, some doctors may use it for the treatment of trauma, obesity and weight control, getting rid of their vices such as smoking and drinking, depression, amnesia, sexual dysfunctions, sleep disorders, hemophilia, burns, improvement of self-image or self-esteem, and other psychological or behavioral problems.
